I am driving myself crazy looking for an IN-expensive battery operated revolving cake stand, or separator... I KNOW I saw one that was mirrored... I think it was Wilton, but I can't find it on their site..... I want to make a carousel cake that moves....... HELP PLEASE !!

I bought Wilton's revolving topper stand at Michael's when they had a 40% off coupon, which made it affordable. I don't think I've ever seen one with a mirror on it, but maybe I just don't remember. Can you buy a mirror separately at the craft store and adhere it to the Wilton stand?

THANKS Deanna..... maybe I'm looking for the wrong "term"... I'll try "toppers" instead.... It doesn't need mirrors, but the one I'm thinking of had them....But would a topper hold a whole cake and still revolve ? hummmm.....

I put a full 6-lb can of Crisco on mine to see if it would still revolve, and it did. It may work with something heavier but that's what I had to test with. I don't need the stand to revolve a cake until tomorrow, but the one I'm making to go on it won't be as heavy as the jumbo Crisco can, so I'm going to be okay. Will your cake be fairly small, or will it be heavy?

I think a 6-cup recipe of buttercream weighs a little over 3 pounds, but I'm not sure about that. My guess - and it's only a guess - is that an 8" round two layer fully decorated cake on a board would weigh about 5 or 6 pounds.

Wilton also has a mirrored topper stand, but it doesn't revolve. Maybe you saw that one and it stuck in your mind?

Experiment #2 - I weighed a 13x9 single layer oval cake covered in fondant topped with a stuffed animal cake sculpture in buttercream. It weighed just short of 9 pounds. I put it on the topper stand and it did revolve, but the stand made a little whispery noise, so I'm thinking that was pushing the limits of what it might want to hold.

YOU, my dear, are a sweetheart....... I want to enter the County Fair this year, and I want to make a carousel, but I want it to actually MOVE..... I want the horses to go around.... I THINK it can be done, but I haven't got the whole thing worked out yet... I found the mirrored one on e-bay.... they want $ 25.00 for that one too.... DARN ! I didn't want to spend that much !

That sounds like a very cool cake! You need to be sure I see a picture of it. I love carousels. Do you have JoAnn Fabrics stores or Michael's near you? Or Hobby Lobby? I don't think Hobby Lobby carries the revolving stand, but their weekly internet coupon is 40% off Wilton stuff this week. Otherwise, Michael's and JoAnn accept each other's coupons.
