Sorry to hear that and I can certainly relate. My cakes kept failing to rise and after about the third one, I realized the oven was barely warm. Long story short, it was the thermostat that had gone bad. My oven came with my house which was built in the 70's so it was a good excuse to go by a new one.

on the upside, often these types of repairs aren't all that hard. I had a heating element go out once, and it took about 10 minutes to replace it. But the timing of something like this is always bad, of course. hope it all worked out in the end.

Oh, I feel your pain! When my oven blew up, I had to gather up all my caking stuff and bring it to a friend's house. Was happily baking until HER OVEN blew up!! The house next to hers was for sale and vacant. My friend was close friends with the former occupants, so managed to get the keys. Prospective buyers toured the house while I was baking! What a freaky day.

i know how you feel....i had this same type of situation happen to me....i wasn't baking a cake, i was baking cookies....i put them in, checked on them 12 minutes later....they looked like melted dough....GRRR.....called my landlord and he said he would get someone over there to fix it....a week later, i walked into my house with my arms full of grocery bags to see a guy half in my oven, butt crack sticking out, and my landlord standing above him, saying to me "i tried to call you, you never answered..."...he never even attempted to call me...i didn't have any missed calls on any of my phones....hopefully your landlord is better about getting stuff like this taken care of in a proper manner, than mine was....
