How can you put a cake in the trunk of a car without any covering? icon_eek.gif None of the cakes they have delivered so far have been boxed or had any covering. (except the cookies) I would be terrified of dirt or damage. When the black and white cake was delivered last night it had a hole in it. Geof just said oh look a hole and stuck fondant over it. Was the hole from a finger or some foreign object??? We'll never know. Love the show, just don't know about their deliveries.

I don't deliver in boxes, mostly because I'd have to special order and the shipping would be outrageous. But I haven't had any problems with my cakes getting "dirty".

I could've sworn I head Geof say "oh look, a finger hole." That was a wild cake. How about the one for his dad with all the fireworks in it! They are too funny!

ITA with you! thumbs_up.gif

I personally would never want to eat any of his delivered cakes. The thought of dirt and dust coming into contact with that cakes makes me sick. The "TRUNK" thats just gross. I am surprised that a health inspector hasn't picked up on that.

I may be wrong, but I think there also may be some element of "television" to that, too. I mean, which is more fun to watch, a big cake in a box being delivered slowly and carefully, or a big cake uncovered in the back of a van or the trunk of a car with wild driving making you wonder if the cake is gonna make it there in one piece? Now given Duff's unconventional style, maybe that's his way of doing things anyway, but I can see the tv crew directing them in that direction if it wasn't.

I so agree, especially the first cake at the horse race, where he carried it through the horse barn!

BUT, he does do all his cakes in fondant - so I guess you could peel that pretty layer off and be safe to eat the cake? icon_smile.gif

how else is he to deliver those cakes that are so big. when i deliver my wedding cakes they are not in boxes and they dont get dirty either. plus the only part of the cake coming in contact with the trunck is the bottom of the cake. if i remember correctly too that hat box cake was in a box without a lid. but it was in a box.

I love Duff! He is very very creative. I am glad that there is a cake show on weekly and not just when there is a special challenge.
I have wondered about the delivery without a box too. I would be terrified to put a cake in the trunk where I couldn't see it. I am looking for a cake friendly car, but I haven't decided yet.

I normally dont use boxes either, but I would NEVER put one in the trunk of my car....I did see a lady who use those big plastic containers (totes), like what you put your Christmas ornaments in, and she used that non-skid waffley stuff in the bottom...some show I seen on the food network. She had done a Hawiian theme cake-I thought it was an excellent idea. One tote was big enough for her largest tier, and the other for her other two tiers and she assembled it when she got there. It doesnt slide, and its completely covered-which I am sure brings peace of mind to the people who watch you carry it in! Yeah, the trunk scene was not a good idea...
