Hi,

What are the measurements of a 1/4 sheet cake? 9x13 or 11x15
What are the measurements of a 1/2 sheet cake?
What are the measurements for a sheet cake?

How much do you charge for a 2-layer filled 1/4 sheet cake?

Thanks,
cakecraze

This question is asked all the time. I'm not for certain, (because there always seems to be different answers) but I think they are:

1/4 - 9x13
1/2 - 11x15 or 12x18
Full - I'd like a deffinate anwer on this....I'd read somewhere that is was two 12x18 side by side??? Anyone know for sure?

Most people I know (not all) consider a 9"x13" to be the quarter and the 12"x18" to be a half. Then a full is 2 of the halves side by side frosted as one cake, unless you have an industrial size oven and can get one of those HUGE pans! (If so, I am SO freakin jealous!!) What you can charge totally depends on your area. A good way to set your prices is to look at bakeries in your area that you feel your product is comparable to. (Not Wal-Mart, haha! You are waaaaay better than that!)

I consider a 1/4 sheet cake to be the 9x13 (decided this after reading numerous posts and websites on the subject of sheet cake sizes). My price is $30 for one layer (serves 25), but if someone wants filled (torted), I have on my price sheet to add an addtional 20 cents per serving for filling of a sheet cake. So for the 1/4 sheet it would be $30 + $5 for the filling.

With regard to the 11"x15": I have used that as a half sheet because it works in my oven well until the new one is in, (got a new bigger oven waiting to be installed... it's killing me!)then I can switch to 12"x18" which is more fair as a half sheet. Anyway, I have heard others that refer to the 11"x15" as a third sheet. That's an idea!

I use for my 1/4 sheets a 9x13 pan. An 11x15 cake is my 1/2 sheet pan, and my full sheet pan is a 12x15 pan. However, others may have different opinions.

As for prices, you are best off calling a local bakery & ask them what they charge for their cakes because prices vary depending on area/location.

I've heard an 11x15 being a third as well. I made my Pepa's 80th birthday cake. It was 2 12x18's put together (one carrot and the other red velvet). I was so lucky, both cakes were the exact same height so no leveling was needed. I took pics because I never thought that would happen again.

I wish I was getting a new oven!

Oh I got the new oven..DH even installed it the night before Thanksgiving last. Be careful what you ask for!!!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif Wired it in wrong and blew it up...Had already given my old oven away...thankfully DH fryes the turkey every year so oven issue there, icon_biggrin.gif however all other oven items, and there were several, including a full size pan of dressing, we had about 25 people for dinner, were cooked on the grill outside. One of the best Thanksgiving we ever had.

I got a replacment part and DH fixed the oven...love it, and DH.

makingcakeintx: my husband also installed our new oven a couple of years ago... I was sooooo paranoid when using the oven the first few times. I was worried that something like that would happen to ours... everything was fine. I am glad your Thanksgiving turned out well. icon_lol.gif

When I lived in OK, my oven was so small, I could not even put any of my cookie sheets in there! Now my DH installed a large (fits the 12x18 pans easily) double oven. Love it!!!!

This is my 2 cents worth. lol
All cakes are two layers of cake, one layer filling.

1/4 = 9x13 serves approx 25 $40
1/3 = 11x15 serves approx 35-40 $50
1/2 = 11 1/2 x 17 1/2 serves approx 50 $65
(I use a commercial low sided sheet pan)
Large 1/2 = 12x18 serves approx 60 $70
3/4 = 2 11x15 (side by side) serves 75-80 $85
Full = 2 1/2 sheets side by side serves 100 $115
