I have another Little Mermaid cake to do this weekend. I've been inspired by so many of you that I don't want to do the same cake again. I was thinking of doing a one layer 9x13 for the bottom and then the wondermold on top with the top half of Ariel sticking out of it.
Do you think it will be necessary to dowel the part where the wondermold is sitting? or do you think it would be ok? or should I just play it safe and dowel?
TIA!
Supporting the cake would be the safest way to go. The wondermold cake is usually fairly heavy, so I would treat this cake as any other tiered cake.

Yes dowel! A good rule of thumb - if you question whether it should be dowelled, do it! What can it hurt even if it's doesn't need it?
