I am needing to cover a 2 tiered cake with black MMF. My question is that everytime I work with MMF it always has some powdery residue from the powdered sugar that I use to keep the MMF from sticking to my mat and rolling pin. With white or other colors you usually can't see it, but with black???

I need this to be jet black so any tips on how to keep it from sticking and at the same time not leaving any powdered sugar behind?

Thanks in advance.

Once I have my mmf rolled out and ready to go, I rub my hand over it gently but vigorously and that helps rub in the ps and gives it a bit of a shine.

hi there luv,

when i did my black fondant, i used alot of shortening to keep it from sticking and i had to be careful not to thin out my fondant while i was working with it...it took me awhile to get it just right...i hope that helps...i know alot of the more experienced artists on this site will help you out as well...

good luck with that and please post a pic when you are done icon_smile.gif

grease your surface with a little shortening........works like a charm and doesn't leave any white powder

Use a little crisco for sticking issues instead of ps. No white residue!

I just dip my fingers into the crisco and rub a little on my mat and rolling pin. Not too much, just a little will do the trick.

I... think the CRISCO is even better than powdered sugar on light cakes also

Okay, thanks for the tips. I was afraid that the Crisco would leave a greasy shine, but I will give it a try and I will just use as little as possible.

Thanks!

hi luv,

there is a lady on one of the other forums that suggested using PAM or some kind of vegetable spray that helps with sticking as well...icon_smile.gif

I always roll out my MMF on a LIGHTLY crisco greased surface. The black cake in my photos was done this way and I didn't have any problems with it being to shiny (at least i didn't think so)

ANother trick is to use cocoa powder instead of sugar when working with Black. Just my two cents worth!
