Yes I did see it and as much as I LOVE bobby I was sooooo glad that he didn't win. Michelle's cake was so pretty and elegant. His, well there are no words, lololol!!!!! It did sound yummy. I think he did an ok job considering he has no prior cake decorating experience. thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif just my opinion.

surprisingly, yes, considering it was his first go at it I think he did really well. It was funny watching him try to frost the cake and cut the dowels.

Yes, I would have been really annoyed if he had won after just throwing that cake together. Hers was gorgeous and so time consuming with all those little sugar flowers.

I couldn't believe how beautiful her cake was. I hope one day I'm half as good as her. You could just tell how much she loved what she does.

I want to find the tool she used to cut the dowels. Does anyone know what it's called or where to find it?

I saw this episode on Sunday.....I agree that I'm glad Michelle won. Did you also notice that Bobby stuck bare rose stems into his cake???? There was a note to the viewers to be sure to use pesticide-free flowers, but EWWWwwww.... Now we're going to have to deal with florists and people thinking that's okay and the stems don't need to be wrapped......Grrrrr....

The tool she used is called a miter box. Here is one at Lowes but its plastic.

Thanks Dustbunny. Another Home Depot/Lowes item that can be used for cake decorating. And it's inexpensive too! thumbs_up.gif My dh was planning on stopping there tonight. I may have to add this to his list. icon_biggrin.gif

You know, I love Bobby so much, and the show was good, but I was a little freaked out by him just shoving flowers into the cake..............

I was going to be mad if Bobby won. I mean I like him and all but come one...there was no comparison in my book.

That recipe looks wonderful I am glad they printed it but how in the world am I going to make the buttercream recipe? I don't have a clue as to the measurement conversions.

Here are a couple of measurement conversion sites. The first one gives the conversion info (ex 1 g =.035 ozs), the other does the calculations for you.

http://german.about.com/library/blrezepte_conv.htm

http://hemsidor.torget.se/users/b/bohjohan/convert/conv_e.htm

Here's what I came up with:
500ml = 2.11 cups egg whites (still ? on how to measure, just add a little more than 2 cups?)
800 grams = 28ozs granulated sugar
900grams = 31.5 ozs unsalted butter
250 grams = 8.75 ozs white chocolate
250grams=8.75 ozs dark chocolate

HTH

I love Bobby Flay and Throwdown! I really like his fresh ideas and his personality is very uplifting. Yes, she did deserve to win. Her cake was gorgeous. Bobby is an excellant chef, maybe just not a wedding cake designer icon_lol.gif

You know, though, I have seen several of his throwdowns, and Bobby really seems to have a lot of fun with them. And when he loses, he is such a good sport about it, too!

Hey as far as converting that mexican hot chocolate buttercream - anyone know what it would be in cups, tablespoons, etc? I don't have a scale yet.......... thinking of getting one but not quite sure what to get.... anyway, wanted to try teh buttercream but can't do it w/ those instructions! Also, what is a sweet ancho chile pepper? I wonder if you could leave the cayenne pepper & chili pepper out - I hate those types of things..... it sounds awful on a wedding cake too! Spicy wedding cake???

Anyway - has anyone tried it??

i have...and leaving the chili ancho and cayenne pepper out would defeat the whole purpose. its delicious and you only "taste" the pepper for a few seconds afterwards, its not "spicy". i took this cake to a fiesta-theme party and eveyone lined up to try it, even the little kids, and no one thought it had too much heat. hth

I saw the throwdown show, I love watching that. I thought Michelles cake was gorgeous and she was so poised doing what she does even in front of an audience.
I love how Bobby enjoys his throwdowns but is gracious to his competitors and does not mind in the least if he loses...he appreciates a good cook!
Did anyone see it last night when the Opera singer he challenged on burgers started "smack talking" him right away and all through the competition, so he pulled out all the stops and changed his "game plan" and he beat her. It was funny to watch the competivness come out in him. He remained nice through it all though!
Go Bobby!

So if I can't figure out the mexican hot chocolate buttercream - what might be another good buttercream flavor for the cinnamon-vanilla cake? Do you think brown sugar cream cheese frosting would taste good? It sounds good on it's own.....

I didn't see the show but just read one of the recipes......I'm just not sure about sweet ancho chile pepper in a buttercream recipe. Some people really like the taste of things like that in recipes that are sweet but it doesn't do a thing for me. I'd be interested to know if anyone tries it and likes it.
