I read alot of posts with mention of a "Fruit Cake" for wedding cake. Is this the same kind of fruit cake that is traditionally given at Christmas?

Yes! Fruit cake is very popular in Australia and the UK.

Not if you mean the 'fruit' cakes given in slabs in the US - NO!!!! Fruit cakes in the UK & Australia are luscious - full of plump juicy fruits that have been steeped in alcohol for weeks. These are very different cakes, trust me!
