How do you get them to stand up on a cake? I'm working on a cake for this weekend and I made the little girl's name with gumpaste. I just rolled it out into a slim roll and worked it to spell out Emily. It's in 3 pieces and I'd like to sit it on top of the cake, I don't want to 'glue' it to the side of the cake. I've seen it done with names and monograms on this site, just wondering how on earth I do it? Thanks.

You can put a florist wire in the bottom (of the letters just a little piece of it) and put it in the cake. Or use a toothpick (or something small like that ) and attach it to the letters and stick them in.
Normally I do this when I make the gumpaste letters (while it is still soft) but I think some florist wire will still get in the dried paste (I hope so icon_wink.gif ).

Good luck!

I've used a lollipop stick for letters/numbers. Just glue the stick on the back with melted candy melts and let dry.

I also use a lollipop stick or a wood skewer. Even toothpicks if the letters are really small. I put a little royal ice drop on the base for extra holding power.
