Tips On How To Make The "pages" Look Good On Open
Decorating By MaryV Updated 4 Jul 2007 , 10:29am by Rosie_from_MD
Hi All,
I'm attempting my 1st open book style cake this week. Does anyone have any tips on how to make the pages on the side look good?
I'm planning on covering the cake with MMF and adding MMF & gumpaste accents to make it look like characters are popping off the page/out of the book.
ANY tips or advice would be greatly welcomed!
Thanks everyone, I'm pretty nervous about this
Hi Mary, great cake project you have
I really liked making a book! For the pages on the sides I used a knife (a special one for the cake decorating but you could also use a normal large knife), just imprint line for line on the sides of the book, letting them sloop a bit in the middle of the book.
You can have a look at mine to give you a better idea:
The other side of the book is on this link:

PD. I added some gold dust to the sides of the pages.
Good luck with yours!!

relax and just have funa fork makes pretty good page lines
Just another idea--how about a sererated(sp?) bread knife? You could just move it down the edge of the book-side to side-like a regular spatula but you would get the groves.
