I have to come up with an idea for a birthday cake for work on Thursday. We had other birthdays on Friday so I already did the summer flip-flops. The birthday girl is turning 24 and she does not want us making a big fuss so I am thinking something small. I am going to be making a really good buttercreme that allows for only light decorating. It really does not let me do and flowers or anything like that. Please help! Y'all usually have really great ideas.

Why not put some fresh fruit on top, it will be quick and easy.

Another option is add oreos to the buttercream if you are filling the cake and then add a couple oreos on top of the cake with real basic decorating...perhaps so shells around the base of cake. Simple, yet still yummy.

You could make flowers out of candy like Airheads, fruit roll-ups, rockets, and things like that. That way it will look bright and colourful and you don't have to worry about making flowers out of buttercream. Plus, everyone loves candy!

Thanks for all the ideas. I went with SaraO's idead to use candy. I made rolled roses out of airheads, not my best work but my niece was sure impressed. I also used skittles, airhead sours for a border and sour straws to write Happy B-day. I will post a pic tomorrow. It is not the best i have ever done but the birthday girl LOVES candy and she didn't want a big fuss for her birthday. Hopefully she will love it.
