I have seen loads of carved/3D cakes on this site and until I read how they were done, I cannot figure it out. Are there books to help with ideas and techniques that anyone could recommend. I really would like to branch out and start doing these cakes, but apparently, my creativity has reached is limit. Please help! Thanks

All I know is that you need to freeze them before you start carving. Then you just do it.

These are my favorite to do. I'm still fairly new at this and practice is invaluable, almost as invaluable as this website! What helps me is to have a picture of what you're wanting to make right in front of you at all times. I use a fish fileting (sp?) knife. I turn on the radio and wait until the house is all quiet and I'm the only one awake. The more tired I am the more fealess I am, and that's helped me tremendously. Just be fearless, don't be afraid to make mistakes, that's the best way to learn.
