I am making a wedding cake this saturday, and the bride wants ribbon on top of buttercream. Is there any way to put it on there and keep the grease from soaking in to it? It seems like I have read on here somewhere that you can use waxed paper under it. How do you keep the ribbon from slipping if it has waxed paper under it? All you decorators on here are really great and I appreciate anything you can tell me about this.....................

Iron wax paper on the back side to make it grease proof. Some people use Glad Press N Seal on the back of the ribbon, cut to size.

I will be doing the same thing for the first time this month. I also read about wax paper. So, you iron it and then stick it to the the cake with buttercream? Is that correct? Then how does the ribbon stick to the wax paper? To make it even more difficult, I have 3 large square stacked cakes. Any further advice? Thanks so much!!!!

The last time I put ribbon on a buttercream cake, it was white ribbon so you could not see the grease on the white ribbon. I have one coming up in October where I will have to use the wax paper. I never thought about the press n seal. I will have to try that soon!

I also read a thread about putting crysco on the ribbon and letting it dry, then the grease will not stick to it....Never tried it, but was wondering if it helps??

I spray mine down with Pam before applying them... the look of grease isn't bad, its just the splotchy grease or letting it do it's own thing. (and its not the paper, just the wax that coats the back of the ribbon and makes it grease proof)
