Okay so I made some pearls from fondant and let them dry a bit and then tried to "roll" (okay put some dust in a ziploc baggie and shook them) them in pearl dust - but the pearl dust doesn't seem to be sticking - and they certainly don't look "pearly"..... any idea what I'm doing wrong? I don't have to paint them one by one do I? I know when you paint you need to use lemon juice or alcohol or water or something along w/ the pearl dust - but I"m just trying to roll them in the dust......... I just don't know what's wrong........ icon_cry.gif

Hmmm..that's how I do it and they come out great everytime!! I use Super Pearl though....

Okay I just re-read your post and you need to use Super Pearl lustre dust not pearl dust in inself. It won't be shiny enough.

The Super Pearl works for me every time. Maybe try to dust them right away before they dry at all.

I agree with KiddieKakes...SUPER PEARL ALL THE WAY!!!!! I just did some for the Topsy Turvy cake I posted yesterday. I did pink and white fondant pearls and they both looked very "pearly".

okay so Wilton pearl dust sucks then, huh? (Like a lot of their stuff it seems.... unfortunately.....) I bought some super pearl from countrykitchen.... do you think I can re-roll the pearls in this new stuff, or do I have to start all over and make new pearls?? UGH! Maybe I can just "brush off" the pearl dust.... since they are pretty dry right now though, do I need to wet them in some way to get the dust to stick?? And can I use that plastic baggie trick - just putting some dust & the pearls together in a baggie & shaking?? (look it's shake & bake and I helped icon_smile.gif ) Or is there another better method?

Thanks guys! These are my first ones and not a whole lot seems to be going right with them!

No need to dust them off...just pop in a new bag with the Superpearl and shake. They'll come out fine!!Do not wet!!

First, I echo the super pearl dust - the Wilton stuff isn't the same. Also, I shake the pearls in a baggie with a bit of dust, then put a few drops of alcohol of some sort (vodka, lemon extract - something clear) in the baggie - just a drop in a couple of different places in the bag - and shake again. If the coating is not lusterous enough, put a little more dust and a couple more drops of alcohol in the baggie and shake again. Gently place the pearls on something soft to dry. This is a Nicholas Lodge technique... It really does not take a lot of dust to coat in this manner, either.
