I'm overloaded this week with cakes....and I've gotten an order for a castle cake. Another first for me. One question I have to those of you who have done these cakes, is what size pan do you use for the bottom of the castle. The Square Castle....not the round. And how many layers do you use? I baked 2, 10x2" squares and I it looks a little flat to me. Just wondering how the rest of you do it. I've attached a picture of the style of cake I'm interested in.

Thanks!!!

that's particular cake looks to me like they have the two square stacked like you said you did but it also looks like it has a round stacked on top of the square and then all the rest is just the castle turrets and towers.......looks like they just made the towers out of two regular ice cream cones with the bottoms stacked together and then a sugar cone upside down on top......I'm sure it could be held together quite well with royal icing and also adhered to the cake board with royal and I would imagine would be very sturdy.........beautiful castle cake!!! Did you try Im 'ing the person that made it for directions??? that would be the best way to know for sure!

Going off the picture you posted, it looks like it is a 8" square cake with the corners cut concave to fit the towers.
The top of the towers look like sugar ice cream cones inverted and a good idea for the towers is to form it out of rice krispie treats.

when I did a castle cake for a 3 yr old last year, I baked a 12 x 18 cake for the botton then a 8 x8 for castle and large cupcakes for the turet part plus ice cream cones on top. the picture is in the galleries. good luck, it was great fun doing it.

kathyg: Could you pm me your directions for your castle cake? I have to do one at the end of next month for a 5 year old. Thanks
