Hi everyone. I plan on doing crosses made out of clay or other related material for favors. I have seen this type of crosses and sometimes they are hung with ribbon from the rear view mirror of a car.
I assume they are made out of clay or some type of porcelain clay. I have a chocolate cross mold and I also have cross cookie cutters for the shape. I don't know which type of clay to use or how to go about it. Does anyone have any ideas? or other things I can do these out of? I was even thinking about gum paste? But I have never worked with any of these materials and only have the 2 molds that I think may help?
Thank you !

You could use polymer clay with your molds or the cutter and then bake it and it will hard like porcelain or a hard rubberized material.......in any case it gets really hard and can be kept as a keepsake forever....be sure to put a hole in the top if you're planning on people hanging them on ribbons, but be careful you can't use the molds for food after using the polymer clay on them so the cutter and/or mold will have to be dedicated to just that!

Thank you for you reply. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I went to Rag Shop and saw a favor kit to make crosses out of Sculpey which is a baking clay. I have to read up more on it but I think its doable. I'm thinking of rolling it out and cutting the 2 strips to form a cross then baking it. Do these clays expand or loose their shape when they are baked? I did find at the cake supply store in my area little roses made out of porcelain that I can glue on the crosses once they are baked.
Any particular type of paint or varnish that I have to use on these? and when? before or after they are baked?
Thanks again for your input. I really appreciate it!!!!!
