Going Full Time In Nyc...yikes!

OK, it's done. I quit my job and am going full time cake decorating October 1 (even though I have 4 wedding cakes to do in september! no sleep that month....).
I'm scared. I am booked up in October but dont have much going on in November... is this a lull in the wedding season? Scary...
Wow!! Congrats!! I am very envious!! I think that Nov is a lull in the wedding season. Usually from easter to oct. is the hot season, as so I was told by reception halls when I was planning my wedding for earlier this year. You never know though!! Good Luck ![]()
''CONGRATULATIONS'' How wonderful for you. I wish you all the very best in your new endeavor. Your cakes are great and you're sure to do well.
I think there are more weddings in December (for some unGodly reason) than November. Make sure all your Christmas shopping is done now or just had out gift certificates.....you're going to be BUSY!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
aw, shucks! you guys are the BEST!
Thank you!
(still shaking in my boots that I will send myself into the poor house, but who knows...)
Good for You!!! I'm sure it will be a great journey...
Best of luck to you & WAY TO GO!!!
..... You're doing what I dream of.... saying good-bye to Manhattan's 9-5 rat race so I can just make cakes.

Cool, maybe I will search this board when it comes time to search for assistance!
Perry, I'm in NYC also so please do search the board when you need "interns". Where will you be set up? And oh yes....C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S !!!!!!!

I will! I am in the West Village in Manhattan.
I wouldn't worry about the lull come November. People usually only book wedding cakes way in advance and will call a week or two ahead for birthdays and other occasions. And the holidays will get busy. In addition to birthdays and anniveraries, there are holiday parties. If you have any pictures of holiday cakes, have them out in Oct. It might get people thinking....
I WOULD LOVE TO DROP BY....KEEP US POSTED ON THE OPENING DATES.
Katskakes,
[that's great! best of luck w/all.
ditto gabesmom. i wish i could find a job away fromt the city (NYC), it's just crazy out here.
Hope to someday have the pleasure and visit your place.]
Crazy is an understatement. I'm 28 years old and I am cake frustrated! All day long I read about cakes, fondant, icing, bows, stars, etc. Everything and anything. Work? What work?!
Cakes are my passion...

You will! I won't be in a store front (rents are around $10,000 a month here, so, um, no WAY), but I am doing a share kitchen with a caterer. I think I will still do my tastings from my home, though.
Wow Congrats. I am so happy for you. That is also my dream.
As GenesisCakes said, please do search for interns here. I will be leaving for florida early next year but I will gladly come up for a summer intership.
Yes guys I am so tired of the ratrace here in the BIG apple. I am ready to SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW down. I am really thinking about starting something up when I get to jacksonville.
Best of luck to you.
Congratulations Perry St.! Your cakes are beautiful! Best of luck!!
Congratulations and best of luck!!! I'm sure that you will have plenty to do in November . . . think Thanksgiving and football games.
