Hi, I got an inquiry about a cake for this February, and I think it is sorta octagonal....but not strictly octagonal.....more like the corners are cut off of a square cake. Some of the sides are shorter than the others. I guess my question is how to know how many servings you can get out of a pan if you are cutting corners off? I'm going to try to attatch a picture so you can see what I'm talking about....

Oh, and if anyone has a really good scratch marble recipe (yellow and chocolate) I'd appreciate it!

Hi!! Umm how many people do you need to bake for? I normally deduct 10 servings from what the serving chart says, I want to make sure there is enough cake. I would deduct like 1-2 servings per corner chopped off for smaller pans and 2-3 for larger pans, am I making sense?

Keep on baking!!!

This is a Martha Stewart design; I saw it on a wedding video she had. They just took a square cake and cut off the edges where they thought it looked good. I agree with the post above; the servings would depend on how much of the corner you took off.

If you're good at math, you can figure the area of the whole square cake, then figure the area of the pieces you're cutting off, then determine the percentage of cake that you're removing, and you'll have that percentage of servings left.

If you're not good at math, post the information (cake size, how much you're removing) and somebody can help you figure it out.

Laura.
