Hey ya'll! Going to be going to my parent's 50th wedding anniversary out of state. Of couse I get elected to do the cake. Didn't want to bring my stuff and have to do a cake on my vacation, thought I'd bring the finished version with me. Kind of scared. Should I ice it there? Should I fully decorate it and PRAY? Should I quit whining and just take my stuff? ANY hints? Thank you for listening. I LOVE THIS SITE!!!!!! icon_smile.gif

On an 8 hour drive... I would take the baked layers, and all your supplies, and decorate it there. Everybody is going to want to watch you and oohh and aahhh over how you can possibly make it look so easy. It'll be good for your ego. Have fun with it and let your family watch you.

I made a graduation cake at home and drove it 7 hrs. Each layer was refrigerated first then packed in individual boxes and all the boxes were stored in the largest cooler DH could find. All of the cakes were covered in fondant and I had no problems. When I got to the party, I cut the dowels and assembled (waited until arrival in case there was some settling during transit). I did bring extra fondant to cover up any problems but didn't need it.
