Help! How To Add Shine To Gumpaste

I made gumpaste shoes which to me look dull. They are pink with purple, and I do not have luster dust in these colors. Is there a way to make the shoes shine? I am really, really sad...and kind of hopeless...I want this cake to look good and have no idea what to do!!! Is there hope?

I haven't tried this but I've read in several places that you can hold gumpaste items over steaming water to make them shine. Try a forum search, I'm sure you'll find lots of info.

Mix equal parts Vodka and corn syrup. Works like a charm. Your booties will have an amzing shine to them. Just make sure they are completly dry or the color will run. I usually coat with the mixture and let dry away from the cake.

Thank you. I've tried looking for info, but there is SOOO much stuff on the site, I just get lost reading everything. I will continue looking, maybe I will get lucky.

Can you use Gin or does it have to be vodka?

When I do a forum search, I limit it to having the keyword I'm looking for in the subject line. Makes it a little more manageable icon_smile.gif

I think as long as it clear. Thinking about it you can use gin or I think its called Everclear.
