Hi all, I was wondering if someone who has done this before can give me some hints and ideas? I am making a simple wedding cake with BC frosting next weekend that will have ribbon on the bottom borders. Is there a good way to do this? I will be assembling the cake on site so I can put the ribbons on now. Thanks in advance for any help. icon_smile.gif

I have only done this once. I read in the wilton tierd cake book that you just wrap ribbon around and tape in the back. I tried it and didn't like the way it looked. Even though it was in the back and used invisable tape. So I added a dab of royal and that seemed to work. The ribbon held!

The only thing I'd add from experience is that on BC icing, satin ribbon will immediately begin to show grease stains through it. Mine was ok, but I had some people recommend putting wax paper behind the ribbon to avoid that in the future. [/list]

Hi all! I have put ribbon on several cakes and never used waxed paper and never had any problems. I also cut the ribbon short enough that the ends meet on the back with out overlapping and have never had to use tape. I do wait till after the ribbon is on the cake before adding the border so I know this helps hold the ribbon in place.

I only use BC and wait for it to just start crusting. If you wait to long it will not stay in place as good. Hope this helps.

I used a sheer ribbon for my cake because I feared the bc would stain the satin or other type ribbon. Since I added a bow I used the bow to cover the ends and I attached the ribbon using clear gel.
Here's my simple cake:

I've put ribbon on before after the bc was dry and used the pearl ended straight pins to hold it together in the back. It was easy to remove for cutting and looked pretty. Used three and just stuck them right into the cake.

Thanks everyone. It's a week before the wedding and I am still waiting for the bride to bring me the ribbon she is using in the wedding. She is going to supply it because it's the one she is using for everything. I am nervous but excited too! Thanks again!
