We have 3 cats, the oldest is about 8, the middle 5 and the youngest isn't quite 1. The younger two have been ganging up on the older cat, he's always been the top of the chain but now all he does is run and hide.
The youngest has an appointment to get fixed the end of the month and I'm hoping that it will calm him down about this but the middle cat is a spayed female so it can't be all that.
The older cat ran away for three days and we got him to come in last night, the first thing the little one did was run him under the bed.
I've been trying to keep them from picking on him but by the time I can get to them he's already been upset.
Does anyone have advice?
The old cat doesn't act like he's sick or anything, he's not sleeping more than he has in the past or acting like he has trouble getting around so I'm not worried about his health.
Thanks

I am not real sure what would cause that but I know when we had three cats our oldest is four the middle is three and the youngest was just one and he was the only male and he LOVED to beat up on his sisters! Even though he was just one he was built much larger then our middle female cat and he would pounce on her left and right and she would go hollering and screaming down the hall with him on her and us on him! We were told by our vet when we informed him we were getting a third cat to try and get a male cat because our other two cats were females and although they have been spayed they are very territorial and males are usually less dominant ... are your cats all the same gender? That could be a small problem as well as just a rambunctious kitten and since the older cat was away from the house for a few days a new strange scent is now on her/him and that could be a factor as well .. hopefully everything works out for the best and make sure to love them all .. my youngest cat just passed away not even a week ago and now I realize how much he was already a part of my heart ... icon_sad.gif

The oldest is a neutered male, the middle is a spayed female and the youngest is male.
The problems started before the cat was gone for the couple days so smells can't be it. He's also outside on a regular basis so again that can't be what's wrong. That and the female goes in and out too.
The youngest isn't what you could call ambitious, he's pretty lazy for a cat his age, so that isn't the problem either.

Have you tried spraying the cat with water from a squirt bottle when he starts really ganging up on the older cat?

My cat now stops what he's doing if I just shake the bottle.

we also bought two of the Comfort Zone products for our male cat so he would calm down .. they are pretty pricey ranging from almost 30.00 for the unit and up to 20.00 for the refills .. I don't really know how well they worked because he was still pretty wild ... we purchased ours from kvpetsuppy.com or it might be kvpetsupplies.com hope that helps!
