I'm planning to make a cake tomorrow for a wonderful lady in our community. I had the idea to make the top like a pond with tinted piping gel and have orange lotus flowers floating on it (made little tiny ones last night since it will be an 8 inch cake!).

Now here's where my inexperience hits - what do I do on the border? I thought to make large leaves, then I thought maybe just a basic (which one?) border with a few long leaves, ferns, vines, etc. coming out and flowers here and there. I was planning basketweave for the sides.

Any ideas or suggestions would be so helpful!

Also, I'm going to try making the Wilton Buttercream with cream cheese for the first time. Any thoughts?

Thank you!!
