My inspiration comes from Cake Central, of course!!!!!!

I don't have much inspiration of my own so I look at other peoples work and attempt it. I think most cake people (not myself) are true artists and if they picked up a paint brush instead of an icing bag they would be like picasso or monet. They have real talent unlike me who just copy off others. I wish I had talent but I got passed by....lol
I'd have to say that my inspiration comes from just about everywhere! Cake Central, of course, and decorating books but also kids books, nature, random things I see when I'm out and about (we went to a place called the Butterfly House this past weekend and I got such a cool idea while I was there). I'd have to say that I tend to think of cakes a lot so many different things inspire me BUT I'm still working on getting these amazingly fabulous ideas from my head onto the cake. I'm still pretty rough in that department. I can't draw, either, so you just have to take my word for it that the creativity does exist in my head even if I can't get it out yet!

What are you talking about??? Your cakes are great ... I absolutely LOVE your mosaic cake with the flowers around the base!! Oh, and your gumpaste roses ... GORGEOUS!!! You're being silly. You're very talented. Even if you get your inspiration from other people, you're still talented enough to reproduce the idea and add your own special touches. 
lately i have really been inspired by fabrics i see on the street, i think next free style cake i do i will stop by fabric store and pick up a swatch of something to challenge myself with, so many beautiful colors and graphics, cant wait to transform them into cake and icing!
Everywhere! Books, internet, tv, objects of things around and about, my husband, daughter, friends, family and of coarse CAKE CENTRAL!!!!!!
Cakesbyjess....Thank you for those kind words. We are our own worse critics are we not. I too have great idea's sometimes in my head but they never quite make it to fruition. The mosaic cake I did in a class at Country Kitchen in Ft. Wayne. Diane Simmons taught the class otherwise I would not have had the first inkling on how to do it.
Now I do have to say I love my gumpaste flowers and those were my first ones I ever did (for wilton 3 course). I did much better than I thought I would especially since my instructor kept saying "here let me show you" and she would just take over and do it. She was the one who did the icing on my cake and then she got talking and forgot to smooth it. By the time she remembered it had crusted to much and so I put the dots on to pull the attention away from the icing. Oh Well...Thanks though!
Mine come from pictures I see on CC and in books that I am adding constantly to my library. Mostly I think it comes from what's inside my head at the time. I plan and plan, draw pictures, design on the computer and then give it a go. I'm usually happy with the results, but there is sooooo much to learn and to try. I love it.
Oh, I just got my " I'd rather be decorating cakes" from CC. It is so much fun to have it on my jeep. I don't know, but it makes me feel sort of special, know what I mean?!

I have to say that everything...literally....inspires me. I get ideas from books, photos, fabrics, toys, other cakes....
It's funny...but I really think about cakes 24/7. Is that weird?
I swear, I go to bed envisioning an upcoming cake....oh my gosh...I may need therapy.

I love the cakes on here - they do inspire me. Mostly though, I close my eyes and I see cakes. And that's where I get my ideas.

My ideas come from the customers. Then I usually GOOGLE it to get inspiration. Before the internet, I used to go to the library to look for pictures! The internet has been such a time-saver!
My inspiration comes from a few words. For example a lady contacted me saying she wanted a cake that was simple and elegant - I let those words sit in my head for a few days and everything I saw became something to think about 'what could I take from that building, what makes that dress elegant and not that one etc.' until the idea comes to me slowly. Then I sketch ideas out and fiddle about with them until I'm happy.
I get inspiration from everywhere also. I think my family probably gets tired about hearing me say, "oh, that'd be great on a cake!" I have much more inspiration than I have cakes to bake...lol Actually that is a blessing. I get soo much inspiration from this site, between all of you posting your pics and the links shared here it is so awesome. My dh comes in here and sees I am almost always reading posts or looking at cake pics. Well he's looking at aircraft on his pc (he's a corporate pilot and Viet Nam veteran chopper pilot so he's hooked) so there you go.... I sure appreciate this site and all of you here! Sincerely!
yep , inspiration everywhere! yesterday i posted im currently addicted to fabric patterns, so today i find myself staring at a ladies blouse studying the design and in my head trying to imagine how i could convert that to a cake, eventually a friend of hers saw me and tried to make eye contact with me, i snapped out of my "cake trance" and she said " you sure were lost, what were you thinking?" i just laughed and said "oh you wouldnt beleive me if i told you" i broke down, told her, it turned into a long cake discussion, i broke out the portfolio and have an order now for next month!
