Help! Recently read about an apple shaped cake using the 6" ball pan, and it was covered in shiney ?fondant/ ?candy clay? something! There was a nice picture posted with the response. It was beautiful, and I'd love to try to make it this week- for back to school of course- have looked and searched and cannot find it! icon_sad.gif

That's not THE one, but very similar. How did they get such a shiney finish? I'm pretty sure the one I'm talking about used candy clay- because I scribbled down the recipe/ directions for this about the same time. The cake in that photo is perfect if someone could explain how to get that shine!

Maybe they used rolled buttercream. I believe that has a shiney finish.

Actually, I think if you use piping gel over the clay, it makes the shiny finish. BTW, didn't you post the request on the "other" bulletin board? I think that is where you saw the response . . . http://www.wilton.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=4&threadid=94836

Good luck! Hope that helped you find what you are looking for - the recipe there sounds like the same one you were describing with the candy clay.
