My husband and I will be graduating from Wilton Course 2 on Thursday (July 5th). Our son had his 21st birthday today and we decided to make him a cake that looks like his "beloved" truck. This is the first cake we have made outside of class. We made it with a modified box mix recipe for 3D cakes (using pudding & sour cream). We made chocolate buttercream and used colors to give it a burgandy color. The grill, window and flames were made with fondant. However the fondant became VERY dry and the flames broke horribly. Next time we attempt something like this we are going to try airbrushing. What do you think?
This cake is very nicely done. Your son must have loved it. Equally impressive is the fact that your husband worked by your side. That alone is phenomenal.
