I am making a chocolate heart shape cake covered with buttercream

I want to make a lid on top of the cake (half way lid). How can I do that?

Do I have to insert a cake board half way through?

I really want the top to be of real cake....

Anybody can help me please.... icon_smile.gif

For the card boeard lids I know they use dowels to hold it up. Maybe if you use a boeard, dowels and then carve the cake at an angle you could get that effect.

Just kinda "pin" the lid on a board to the bottom half of the cake (the box) at a slant and then cut other dowels to hold it up at that slant so it won't fall closed on you. So, cut the dowels at descending lengths and then place the cake on top of them (shouldn't touch the bottom cake) and then secure it in place by driving a dowel staight through both cakes.
