Try this: Use white Crisco, so the icing will be white, add ½ teaspoon butter flavoring or oil to the recipe before mixing. Also use clear vanilla extract.

For white icing, I always use all crisco, It gives a nice white icing. Add some clear vanilla extract and butter flavoring. Hope this works!

I use half butter, half crisco and then use a whitening product that Wilton sells. Looks just like the solid crisco recipes.

I love this half and half recipe as well. Cream the butter for a long time, the longer it is creamed, the paler it will become. Also, try True White coloring gels. I have a bottle of Americolor, I have not used it yet but I am told it turns your icing a brides white.
