I am making RI dummies for the bridal show. I frosted them and left them to dry, then will sand to make extra smooth. I thought they were dry enough and turned them over so the bottom, where some of the frosting snuck under, could dry. When I lifted them up to turn them back over-VOILA!!! Some of it stuck to the counter. Now I have huge areas that are yucky and thinner than others. Should I try to fill in the bad spots, then refrost again or just wash off and start over? I am not using fondant/mmf as I just have had to many troubles-I need to practice more. TIA
I would wash them down and start over--I doubt you'll be happy with patching results.
In the ideal world, putting on several thin coats of royal works better than one thick coat. If you put on a couple of coats--3-5--you let it dry for 12hrs. in between coats and you can sand little imperfections at each coating. The final coat should then come out nice and smooth.
If you go with the single thick coat, make sure that your icing is on the thin side so that you have some time to smooth as you go along. The dummy will need to dry for DAYS in order for it to be ready to sand. If it's not really humid where you are, 2-3 days should be OK and the longer the better. Place the dummy on saran wrap, a silicone mat, or silicone parchment when drying so it doesn't stick.

Another little tip you might use, to avoid the washing part altogether, wrap your dummies in saran (plastic) wrap, so that when you are done and want to use the dummie again for another design all you have to do is peel off the wrap and "poof" you have a nice n clean dummie for the next inspiration.
