I use two mixes in a 9X13 so I think you would double that for a 12X18 to 4.
I always follow the directions for the cake mix, doubling if I'm mixing 2 at a time and it works fine for me.

I use 3 Duncan Hines mixes for a 12 x 18. A mentor of mine told me to use only 2 Tablespoons of oil per mix, so that is what I do & it works well for me.

Good luck!

For a 12x18 I use three (3) box mixes, and the same amount of oil as called for in recipes. I usually use 1 extra egg for each box mix though.

I've found if I use 4 mixes it will run over the sides.

Can't help you with the cake mix question since I do nothing but scratch cakes now, but I ususally double a recipe for my 12x18s. As far a the flower nail goes, definitely use them. I discovered that using three works better than using only two. Good luck! These are fun to bake!

I have the best luck with DH Butter Gold, 2 boxes mix, 2 cups sour cream, 3/4 c sugar 8 whole eggs, 1/2 c milk and 2 sticks of butter melted. I get a nice full cake in the 12x18 pan. I have never heard of using the flower nail as a heating core, I will try that the next time.

i cant answer the oil part because i only bake scratch cakes. but for the pan i use whats equivalent to three mixes. i also collar the pan with parchment...no spill over that way.
