Does anybody suffer from these? When I say suffer i mean suffer!! I am in nearly constant pain my periods are extramly heavy with clots ,I have brest tenderness dizzyness etc. I have been to 4 dr's and had one surgery which did absoulty nothing. I am desperate and at wits end. I have nobody to believe me when i say i am in pain. I have an appointment for a dr in Little rock ARk 3 hours away. It is not pratical but maybe they can help me. Anybody know about this or have any advice?
I would get a few opinions. It may be something else. I had cysts that came and went with my cycle, but they didn't cause pain.
Are you on the pill? It often helps with pain.
I had heavy/clotting cycles, too. I finally had my uterus "frozen" with just 3 dabs of the freezing wand, and my periods are pretty much non-existent. I spot for an hour, and I'm done! Pure joy! Don't do it if you want kids; odds are that you won't be able to carry--the procedure reduces the lining.
I dealt with ovarian cysts for about 14 years. They would grow and burst and repeat. Let me tell ya, they aren't fun when they burst. Even if they are removed they can come back. I had several other problems, like endometrosis (bad spelling) and ceverical cancer. I had a hysterectomy in March at the age of 31. Do what you can to get the best doctors and research everything before making any final decisions. I had cysts on my right ovary. I have only my left ovary from the surgery...hoping to avoid menopause this soon. I found out they can start on this one. No one told me that. Research and listen.

Oh my gosh, I had my first one back in Dec and it was so painful! I woke up that morning feeling like I was almost in labor. 
It was really painful, but the pain kind of came and went but didn't stop so I had my hubby take me to our local hospital BIG MISTAKE!! The ER doctor diagnosed me with bladder spasms...he gave me something that he said would relax my bladder. Went and got the meds took them and didn't help. By that evening, I hurt so badly I could barely breathe so hubby rushed me back to the ER. The nurse was like "You didn't give the medicine time to work!" in a hateful tone. I was like it's NOT going to work because there is some else wrong with me!! The same DR came in a did a exam and sent me for a CT, well....he came back to me and said that I had a ovarian cyst twice the size of my ovary rupture. He sent me home with some pain meds. I think the pain from a ovarian cyst is much worse than labor pain!! I wish the story ended there but weeks after my cyst I was still having pain!! I went to family DR and she said I must have hurt my back, no I didn't but she wouldn't listen, I went to 7 different DRs and was diagnosed with everything from gas to my gallbladder. Mine you I had been in lower abdomen pain for over a month. I could barely get out of bed, finally one morning I got up out of bed and fell to the floor, I couldn't move...hubby wanted to call the ambulance but I wouldn't let him so he rushed me to a hospital in a bigger town that we live in....the ER doc there did a full body scan and found that my cervix was full of fluid...he sent me home and made me a appt. with my ob/gyn the next morning. I didn't think I was going to make it through the night I was in so much pain. They were having to give me morphine for the pain. Got to the ob/gyn in the next morning and what was going on is that my cervix had closed ...I had never had a ovarian cyst before and didn't know blood/fluid was suppose to come out. The ER doc from the first time I went to the hospital told me that the fluid would be adsorbed in my body. WRONG!!! I carried around a cervix full of blood, fluid and infection for a month!!! My ob/gyn said if the infection had spread up to my ovaries, I would have died. I had to take weeks of antibiotics. So my cervix closing is something I'm going to have to worry about from now on. 
Sorry to be so long missy, but I know how it feels...and I don't think there is anything really that they can do about them. I don't wish that kind of pain on anyone.

oh my gosh that sounds terrible!!
I live in a small town and the medical care sucks. But I have seen two dr's in a much larger neighboring town but that does not seem to be helping. I am broke from all of these dr visits but what are you suppost to do just live and be miserable 99 percent of the time? I als am trying to convieve and have been for three years. I am convinced that my infertility is a symptom of these cysts and I just want a dr to listen to me. I was also diagnosed with seedling fibroids. I research all of the time and sometimes it seems that I kno wmore than the doctors. of four doctors none gave an ultrasound. Every thing I read says that it the first thing that you should have done!!
I am just really furstrated and need advice on how to make drs listen. I literally get so mad that I chew them out and make an ass of myself but I don't know why nOONE will help me!!

I understand where you are coming from Missy, it's like the doctors just dismiss you and don't care what is going on with you, especially when you don't have insurance. I think that was the case with me...no one wanted to do any tests to find the reason I was still in pain after a month and it nearly killed me. I wanted to go back to every dr. I saw during that month and give them a big piece of my mind!! 
I know you have a feeling of helplessness (it was the same feeling for me) and the drs won't take the time to listen to what you are trying to tell them. I wish there was some help I could give you, I know it's very expensive, but maybe seeing a fertility specialist?? I think you are right Missy, I think the cysts might be the cause of the problem...of course I'm not a dr or anything, but I really think that might be the reason. Yep, I think they should do a ultrasound on you, that would show a lot that is going on. I think a specialist would be more willing to listen and find the cause.

Thanks for the support. The funny thing is I have 2 insurance companies so you think drs would test me for everything under the sun. I have an appointment with a fertility specalist in 2 weeks so maybe she will help.

I'm sorry for both of you. Missy you shoud really check out this websitewww.medicinenet.com/endometriosis and if you read on and it doesn't sound like what you have keep looking. Until you find something that sounds like what you have. Then go to your DR. and say I want you to test me for this. and if they refuse say "Fine I'll find a Dr. who listens to their patients." Also I found that Nurse Practitioners are more willing to listen to patients and they have good pull with the DR. What I'm saying is that in the Information Age we shouldn't be subject to our DR. knowledge, patience, and bed side manor. I hope things work out for you.
I have PCOS which means I have cysts all the time. There are some treatments for it but nothing that works perfect. I suggest you see an endocrenologist (sp) as opposed to a normal doctor. Some women find relief with being on the pill, I did for years, it helps regulate your period and keeps the cysts from growing and becoming painful. But if you are trying to conceive it doesnt do you much good.

I have PCOS, the main treatments are the pill to regulate your cycles or eating healthy and losing weight if you are overweight and wanting to get pregnant. My dr. also had me on a diabetic medication called metformin which regulates your sugar levels while reducing the amount of hormones produced by your adrenal glands- at least that is my understanding- there may be someone else with more knowlegde about PCOS.
2 days after I found out I was pregnant with #2 I was in the hospital for 4 days because of the costant stomach pains. I could barely uncurl from the fetal posititon. Doc's thought I had a tubal pregnancy because of the pain but it was ovarian cysts rupturing like crazy. I still have them and they hurt sooooo bad!
I started using progeterone cream about 4 months ago and it seems to be working very well for my PCOS symptoms. After the birth of my twins I couldnt go back on the pill because my blood pressure was high. I also tried metformin for a while but it didnt help me. This cream seems to be working the best out of all the different things I have tried and it is pretty easy to do.
I too feel your pain sweetie. I think women have to go through the most terrible things. Men are so lucky. I had to have my right ovary removed a couple of year ago because I had a cyst the size of a baseball,and my periods were horrible also. He done an endometiral ablation. That worked good for two years. Then last year I started having problems again. So since I had my kids already the doctor went back in and done a hysterectomy, leaving my left ovary to keep from going into menopause because I am only 29. But I have felt so much better since having mine done.

Yuk! Not fun at all! I had PCOS and adenomyosis had a hysterectomy with both ovaries removed 12/5/05. So glad to finally be rid of the pain! Pretty extreme for a 35 year old, but it was the best choice for my situation. While I was younger and wanting to conceive, here are some of the things I used for dealing with the pain.
Tracking my symptoms every cycle, so I could find a monthly trend. That way I (and DH) could have a "heads up" for when I may not be feeling well. Then 2 days before my pain would typicaly start, I would start taking Aleve so it could start building up in my system. It seemed to help to stay ahead of the pain, rather than be in pain and trying to kill it. High strength BC pills to inhibit ovary activity (the nice low dose ones weren't strong enough for my system). Then when we were trying to conceive, I had to take Clomid. Some cycles, cold therapy felt good, and other cycles, heat helped. The stick-on heating pads are great. But not the wimpy little ladies size. Use the size for shoulder/back pain. I didn't have clots, though. Have you been checked for fibroids? Hopefully you will get some help at your next dr. appt. Good luck.
I just got diagnosed with PCOS and only know the little that I read online about it. Can you all with PCOS fill me in more? I went to the gynecologist for another issue (still unresolved) but then also addressed my random, off-the-wall cycles. I have had clotting for about two years now with my cycles, which I was told was not a big deal and happened with age (I'm 34). And I used to be totally regular but for the last year, I'm all over the place. Sometimes I'll go 6+ weeks before my next cycle, and then I've had two in a row (normal cycle, 3-4 days without it, and then another week long cycle). So far, no pain or anything (thank goodness!) but I think I'm in the early stages as my cycles have only been so out of whack for about a year now. My sister has it (along with a myriad of other issues) and she had a hellish time conceiving and finally, after two IVF's, she had twins. I conceived both babies (a 4 year old boy and a 2 1/2 year old boy) almost immediately and with no issues so it wasn't a factor with my conceiving. But my sister had so many other issues, too, there's no telling which one was the biggest contributor to her fertility issues.
What kind of symptoms have you all experienced with PCOS? I actually have thought about posting here about PCOS so I'm so glad I read this post!
it's normal to have cyst in at least one ovary...
not normal to have pain...
there may be some underlying issues that your doctors may be missing...
i'm in the same boat as you...
a week b4 aunt flow comes...start taking advil...i take one at least every 4 hrs...a couple of nights b4 use a heating pad and sleep w/it on (not advised but i do it anyways)...cut down on caffiene...caffiene makes muscles cramp worse...start taking vitamins...and try to do some light exercise at least once a day...maybe 2-3x do some heavier exercise...this may help...
I have PCOS too. My endocrinologist discovered it when we were working out another issue. I had the same irregularity that you had, but, eventually, my gynecologist found the right pill (Yaz) after the endocrinologist could not. I take Metformin as well for PCOS. Although, I'm very inconsistent about taking it. Pre-PCOS diagnosis I started to have cramps, but don't think I had any "bursts." Now my cycles are super short and not heavy at all.
adawndria - why do you take meds for the PCOS? My doctor did not suggest taking anything or act like it was a big deal (in fact, never talked to the doctor . . . after my ultrasound, the nurse called to follow up and say it was PCOS and the only things she said were that 1.) have my primary doc test me for diabetes as people with PCOS are more prone to getting it, though thankfully I tested fine 2.) if I skip more than 4 months worth of cycles, I should come in and be looked at and 3.) if I want to get pregnant, it could be more difficult and I may need to take something at that time).
Since your symptoms were not bad, why are you taking anything? Just as a preventative? I'm not doing anything at all and am just curious if I should be.
I'm taking the medicine to help my body break down glycogen better (to help prevent diabetes) and to potentially help bring my weight down. It's more of a preventative measure. I'm slightly overweight, so this should also help to get my weight under control. If it weren't for the weight issue, it would probably go "untreated." I was told about the getting pregnant thing also, but now that I'm regular because of the birth control, getting pregnant shouldn't be as challenging as previously thought, but could still pose problems.
