I have looked into doing photo transfer and the actual printers are pretty reasonable. Ink on the other is around $70. Well, I am just starting up and haven't had much call for the prints yet, so I am afraid if I don't use it everyday, the ink will dry up. If the print heads dry up, can you just clean them off and they are good to go again? I would hate to ruin $70 worth of ink because I wouldn't use it every day, but I would sure love to not have to run to Wal-mart (30 miles away) whenever I need a pic.

I use mine maybe on average once a month. I have not had a problem with inks drying up at all. I just make sure I do a test print before I do a real one--just make sure everything is working good.

..if I don't think I will be using mine for awhile, I remove the ink cartridges and put in the cleaning cartidges instead.

It's also a good idea to get a Canon because the print head is removable. Just in case you do get a clog, you can take it out and clean it.

You can use the Canon iP3000, iP1500 or MP130. You can find them new on eBay for between $50 and $100 or at an office supply shop (MP130). I purchase supplies from www.kopykake.com I use a 2 cartridge which cost about $100-$150 to set up including printer, ink and frosting sheets. I think the iP3000 is the best choice though and it's a bit over $200 to set up.
