I am thinking about using the wondermold and making a bridal doll cake for my daughter's shower. icon_rolleyes.gif Would like to do a copy of her dress, but the problem is her dress is not as wide on the bottom as the cake mold - pretty much straight down. Do you think I could carve down the cake to be straighter (using a dense cake of course) without it falling apart?

In my head I can see this cake, but since my fondant skills are not the greatest ( the dress has draping and lace ties in the back so would have to do fondant) so what makes me thnk I could pull this off is beyond me! icon_redface.gif I know I could make a veil to put on the doll at least.

Of course you can carve the cake to fit your needs. Just make sure that you use a cake recipe that is dense enough to carve, and that you freeze it before carving, so it won't crumb all over the place on you.

Personally, I would just stick with the wide mold because isn't the wedding gown supposed to be somewhat of a 'surprise'? It's a nice idea, but all the shopping, planning, excitement, etc. would be gone for me once the bride is standing waiting to come down the isle and yet I've already seen what the gown looks like.

Thanks for the advice ladies. Vicky, I can see your point about the dress being a surprise......being the fondant-challenged person I am, if I do a bridal doll, it won't look anywhere near what the dress looks like! I may have to do a practice cake first to see if I can pull this off; luckily the shower won't be until the end of September.

I also loved this idea, my picture is in my photos, I just kept redoing pieces of fondant until they looked right. I don't think it took the surprise of the dress away, because I didn't really get the doll that close to the dress. My advice though is to find a barbie as close to your daughter as possible (hair color) Someone on this site actually has a hair dresser friend who fixes the hair!! I made the veil and pearl necklace to match daughter's

Please show us pictures, I would love to see them.
