Just wondering how to do this and how long to let it dry and when you put the cake on the cake board is there anything seperating the cake from the fondant on the board? Don't know if the fondant will get all moist and mushy, that's what I'm thinking will happen.

Cake is due for Tuesday evening but would really like to get it done by tomorrow night. It is 2:00 in the morning and the cake board is drying as I type (half asleep mind you).

Thanks!

I spritz my board with water, then put a mound of fondant on top and roll directly onto the board. Then I trim the fondant. I always put my cake on a separate board, then attach that to the fondant covered board, that way it is not actually sitting on the fondant. As far as how long the fondant takes to dry, that depends on how thick you rolled the fondant.

How do you attach the cake board to the fondant board?

I just use a smear of frosting, but you could use melted chocolate to attach.

Thanks. I'm very new to fondant. I've used fondant for small details a couple times, but never to completly cover a cake. I've seen so many beautiful photos, I'm anxious to try it. And the covered cake board is such a neat look. Thanks for the tip.

I covered my first cake drum this weekend with fondant for a topsy turvy cake. I used piping gel underneath mine. Just made sure it was a very thin, smooth coat.

I use jam to put on the board then roll the fondant out to cover the board place on top of board and trim.

My husband custom cuts my cake boards from wood, so I use them over and over again.

I cover the board with foil. I then cut a circle or square of felt and glue to the bottom of the board. Then brush the top with beaten egg white and put my already rolled out fondant on the top.

I use a sharp knife to trim the edges.

If you roll it a bit less than a 1/4 inch it takes about two days to dry.

When I get my board back I just peel the foil off and the fondant comes with it.

I don't use a ton of glue for the felt. Just enough so it stays on the board. If it gets soiled I just rip that piece off and put a new one on.
