Besides Cake Balls ... What Can You Do With Scraps?
Decorating By LittleLinda Updated 2 Jul 2007 , 4:15am by AmandaPanda
I overbaked a cake yesterday. Didn't burn it; but would not eat it as a cake because it's going to be too dry. What can I make with it? I have no chocolate for dipping cake balls; was looking for another alternative.
freeze until you do?
Ha Ha! Last time I overbaked a cake it went into the freezer ... and is still there!
I'm going to a cookout tomorrow. I am making whoopee pies for that ... but now that I have this cake; I figured an extra dessert wouldn't go to waste!
BTW, the cake is half white and half chocolate.
make a trifle
in tall glasses
layer of cake,
layer of fruit (strawberry goes w/ both!)
layer of whipped topping
repeat layers until glass is full (at least two of each finishing w/ whipped topping.
and drizzle simple syrup or juice from strawberries on the cake
garnish w/ fresh fruit pieces.
earlene's cakes website has quite a few recipes and ideas: http://www.earlenescakes.com/CakeCrumbRecipes.htm
Thanks everybody. All look yummy ... for the cookout, I think the most practical are some of the crumb cookie recipes on earlene's web site that dandelion posted.
Keep those recipes coming!
Here's another site with different cake crumb recipes:

There are a few dupes too, though.
HTH
I take my scraps sometimes and take my pyrex loaf dish and layer cake then ice cream then cake then ice cream, stick in the freezer and voila you have ice cream cake ... YUM!
