I just saw a picture of a cake that a friend of mine did. She used bc for the cake and mmf for the decorations. She's using water to adhere the mmf pieces to the bc, but it's looking a little watery around the edges of the mmf.
I've only worked with fondant on fondant and used extract to adhere the decorations to the cake. Just a tad, not a whole lot.
Is there something else she should be using, instead of water? Or should she just cut back on the amount of water she's using to glue on the fondant?
For my second class of course 3, our teacher had us place a thin layer of piping gel around the bottom base part of the cake and that glued our fondant to the buttercream/cake. We just used our spatulas and dipped into the piping gel to spread it on.
Yup, I hear piping gel was the best to use... I think a very small amount of water works best when attaching MMF to MMF.
I got a 'water' pen at the craft store and it is a wicked time saver..... It has a built in vial of water and you just squeeze to wet the brush a bit... it's the perfect amount of moisture and I don't have to worry about tipping over my little tin of water with the painbrush ![]()
I was advised in class to use clear vanilla extract, and then watched a couple of food network challenges and saw the pros using water. Sounded to me like extract sales had been a little slow
One of the fellas on a network challenge was using a clothing steamer!! That was all fondant to fondant though. In BC to fondant, I've used the piping gel, but it seems to take so long to set. I like a small amount of water on the back of the fondant.
