I have been wanting to buy some Gumpaste -ready made, but both times I have been to Hobby Lobby they are out. I do have some Gumtex and I know there is a recipe on the can to make gumpaste.

My question is this, do you prefer the ready made gumpaste or do you make your own with the Gumtex?

Thanks!

P.S. I don't have any glycerin, so is there something else I can use in place of it?

is it wilton gum tex? then you don't need glycerin at all. i use corn syrup in place of the glucose, if thats what you mean. i make my own when im not getting paid to do gumpaste work. its much cheaper. but, its harder to use. i find that its really sticky (like mmf), and its impossible for me to get all the lumps out. fortunately, when i've used it the lumps have never shown up on the finished product. i say, if you can't find the premade, then its a fine substitute, but if you can afford it then pay for the premade stuff.

Wilton makes a mix that you just add water and a bit of powdered sugar. Comes out just as good as the premixed and its a few dollars cheaper. I get mine at Michael's don't know if you have one near you but I bet you could order it online from Michaels or Wilton.

Thank you, Biya and beccakelly. I am about 40 minutes away from Hobby Lobby and 1 hour from Michael's. I am hoping to go to Hobby Lobby today and I will use my 40% coupon if they have the ready made Gumpaste. I am so anxious to work with gumpaste while I am off this summer (I work at school) but so far I haven't been able to get any. I do have the Wilton Gumtex, so thank you for letting me know about the corn syrup. I appreciate the tip about the premix that you add water and p. sugar to also. I will check into that.

I went to Hobby Lobby this afternoon and they were out of the Gumpaste ready made and the mix. I was looking at the glycerin and the funny thing is the ingredients only list corn syrup. Wilton thinks they have one up on Karo or something?

I rememered beccakelly telling me she used corn syrup, so I had to laugh to myself knowing that I had that at home. I don't need to buy corn syrup in tub (for $3.99 I think it was) when I have it at home in a bottle.

Since I have never used gumpaste I wanted to get the feel of it without making it homemade, but oh well. I have waited long enough and I don't want to put off trying new things.

Thanks for all the help today.
