This weekend my family went to the Ky State Fair in Louisville, Ky. They had a display of cakes that had been already been judged and some of them were really gorgeous. There were pies and other goodies too. I took a few pictures but I am afraid to post them because i'm afraid the person who actually made the cake will see my posts with their cakes in them and think I am trying to pass them off as mine so you'll just have to take my word for it. If any of you can make it to the fair then check them out. We had a wonderful time except when someone thought it would be really cool to pull the fire alarm at 12:30 in the morning. If any of you have not had the experience of jumping up in the middle of the night in a strange hotel room and running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, scared out of your mind then let me tell you, IT"S NOT FUN!!!!! From now on, I will be definately not be staying in Louisville when the fair is going on, I will be traveling back to Shelbyville to spend the night. The hotel we stayed in (I won't mention names) did not even have the courtesy to come out and tell us what was going on. They did not even come out and tell us we could go back in. My DH had to walk in and ask and they told him, "Oh yeah, it's ok, you can go back to your room" like it was no big deal. It took me 2 1/2 hours to get my 4 year old to quit crying and go back to sleep. He wanted to come home and we would have except I had a dr. appt the next day. Thanks for letting me vent on that subject. I appreciate it!

Lots of the people that enter cakes in the KY state fair belong to ICES. Lida Snow was one of the past presidents of ICES international and they are really trying to get members to put cakes in the state fair. I am sure they would not mind if you posted them with the caption "these are pics from the KY state fair that I thought were beautiful". Just as long as you arent claiming them as your own they should not mind.

Sundine2, I think you're probably right. I am going to post them if I can find them. Would lose my head if it wasn't attached! icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm just curious....how does one go about entering a cake in the contest at the state fair? Is there a website that lists the dates and rules and everything?

Not that I am planning or good enough to do so, but maybe someday.........maybe.

In the galleries there is an Events catagory that you can post pictures from different places. Like the state fair where you don't know who made the cake. They are for reference and you don't claim them. If you have any questions I would recommend sending a PM to Jackie or Heath.

I live in Ky and I personally don't care much for louisville at all. My bil & sil live in Shelbyville, but are moving back here soon closer to where we live. They love shelbyville. But, b/c of a job change, they're moving, so good luck to you next year.

I hate to hear of that baby crying for 4 hours...I hope he has gotten some much needed rest and is happy to be home.

mmdd,
Yeah he has gotten some rest but it has scared him off from motels or hotels for now. He just remembers stuff much longer than most kids his age. My husband and I have stayed in Shelbyville many time and believe me if we can ever get our son to stay in another motel again, we will be staying in Shelbyville next year if we go to the fair.
