ok - so the cake isn't OF a monster, but this cake turned into a monster. I'm adding the pics to my gallery now and I'll be giving an explination of the monster story here. I wanted to go ahead and post this so I can link it to the photo. For those of you who read my other post about me being an idiot, this is the rest of the story. icon_smile.gif

So I was asked to do this cake for a man's 60th bday. The wife ordered it and said she had made a list of things the hubby had done or was interested in or whatever. She wanted them all incorperated into the cake and she wanted three tiers all chocolate icing (so it wouldn't "look like a wedding cake") There are 12 scenes depicting the things on her list. She wanted me to do as much in 3d as possible.

Oh the layers are 14, 10 and 6 inches. The bottom is almond pound cake, the middle is chocolate velvet and the top is red velvet. The middle layer also has a raspberry filling.

I made as many of the little bits and pieces as I could and then ended up having to just ice on some of the details. I lost count of the number of hours I spent on this one cake this week. I really like some of the elements and am not too happy with others. I was pretty upset with the icing, too. I could not get it to smooth out any more and now it looks really bad in the pictures. That's what I get for trying a new recipe!

Plus the lady sent a teenage boy to pick up this cake and drive it two hours away to the lake. icon_eek.gif I took tons of pictures because there is no telling what it looked like once it was delivered.

So I have decided that I really under charged for this one. But I am still trying to live and learn. It just seems like I never learn... LOL

Thanks for the support and advice from those of you who gave it. icon_smile.gif

Great googly-moogly. That's something Duff would have done. I would have charged at least $500 for it. GREAT job on all those miniatures.

I think your cake is awesome... you did a fantastic job.
I got the giggles thinking about some of the things, though... is he a doctor, or does he just go to the doctor alot? If he's a doctor, how much wine and cheese is he consuming when he's on call? Maybe it's just me, but these are the kinds of things that I think about.
But all in all, you did a wonderful job on that cake, I'll bet he just loved it!

I think my favorite parts are the onion/celery/potatoes, and also the grapes/wine/cheese.

You're really quite clever! And it's a lovely cake.

Have you heard how the cake survived the car trip with the teenager?

That's fantastic! You've put soooo much effort in to it! Don't worry about the icing - it looks fine.

I think the icing works well with all the elements of the cake. Sort of looks rugged and like a mountain. That was a lot of work and excellent results. I really like the way you worked all those things in. Think it looks good with some 3-D and the rest not.
