Okay, this is totally a newbie question, but where do you all decorate a larger cake (10X 10) and then how do you get it to the serving/display board. Do you just decorate on the board with some wax paper underneath and pull it out when you are done?

I cover my board in self-adhesive contact paper. If any frosting smudges on the board, it wipes off easily.

Yes Maam' that is how I do it exactly. I put it on the cake board with the wax strips and decorate. Then pull the wax paper out. And that is it. I bought a cake box from Kroger ones they sell their cakes in with plastic lid. If its a cake for my family I just transport it in that and keep reusing it. Hope that helps!

Yes, it is reuseable. To clean, I use a wet rag rather than dousing it with water. I cover all my boards in it. Foamboard, too. I even have people return the boards to me-cardboard and foamboard.

I I want something other than contact paper, I will cover with wrapping paper and then cover with transparent contact paper. Keeps the grease from spreading over the paper and makes it re-useable.

Decorate right on the baord that the cake is staying on. I frost with an icing tap and there isn't a mess on the board at all.

Mac-
that is an awesome and practical idea. You would not need to buy so many cake boards all the time. My mom just gave me 6 rolls of contact paper too!!! thanks for the idea.

That's what I love about CC. I'm always learning something new. Sometimes it's the simplest thing and you just don't think of it on your own. icon_redface.gif Thanks for the idea! thumbs_up.gif

I also have started to cover my boards with wrapping paper then clear laminate it. That way you can have tons of different looking boards. I love the idea. It's very easy to do also.

joannek-

how thick is laminate? I'd say that would make it even sturdier too! And fun to change the paper out for every theme.

The contact paper is a great idea. Why didn't I think about that icon_rolleyes.gif Also I use tissue paper to cover some boards. Not the super thin paper kind but I have found some that is like thin mylar. It works great. Using it I don't have to wrap the board then contact paper it. Its already grease and water proof. Plus I usually but it at the Dollar Store thumbs_up.gif
