On average how far would a 5lb tub of satin ice go? i know its hard to say w/o specific sizes but i've never used it. only a few times using wiltons fondant (yes i said the dreaded W word lol)

an average price i've seen for a 5lb tub of satin ice is around 23$. to some this isnt a bad deal for some its an investment hehe. i was wondering for those who use it could you tell me how far you think it would go; feel free to list sizes you've used it on etc. i'm all ears icon_smile.gif

Not sure about how far it will go but it's a little cheaper at www.intotheoven.com

5lbs = 80 oz.

Here's the Wilton chart for fondant amounts based on ounces: http://www.wilton.com/wedding/makecake/fondant/fondantamounts.cfm

When I've based it on that chart, I always have some leftover fondant.

It will depend on how thick you roll your fondant. I roll mine pretty thin 1/16th to 1/8th inch, so it lasts longer. Try this link from Satin Ice...I find that it's close to what I use per cake. However, I usually use more to work the cake. I roll my fondant diameter an inch or two larger than I need, so this requires more fondant to 'work'.

www.bakedeco.com has 5 lbs for $18.00. As long as you don't need a lot of different colors, it's a good resource for white and chocolate. I think they have ivory too. Their very large buckets are even more cost effective.

DecoPac has a vanilla 5lb tub for $13, and a chocolate 5b tub for $15. Their s&h is VERY cheap too, only $27 to Alaska no matter how many tubs I order. Plus for lower 48 you get free s&h for $75 of products.

mmf wont roll as easily or as thin as satin ice.

i too recommend www.intotheoven.com for ordering. it is a low price and the shipping is very low and VERY VERY fast.

if you buy 20 lbs it is less than 50 plus shipping of 11 (to my zip). not bad. cheaper than wilton! and it WILL go a long way.

The cheapest place that I have found it is on Nick Lodge's website. I bought the 20lb bucket and it was much cheaper, and their shipping charge isn't bad either.

ChocoPan is more chocolatey, but is a lot softer and stretchier than Satin Ice. I'd go with ChocoPan Noire for chocolate fondant. For white, I'd go with Satin Ice because it is a lot easier to handle.
