Need ideas for a cake for next Saturday.

A customer wants a cake with an Italy theme, specifically a postcard. I was thinking of using my edible image printer to make the postcard but I feel like that isn't good enough.

Does anyone have any other ideas for a Italy postcard cake?

well, an image search on google or yahoo will return lots of actual post cards for inspiration.

i really like basic idea of this one >>

but would simplify it.

keep outline of country..then use only a few classic simple images.

Michelangelo's David
Tower of Pisa
Gondolier and boat from Venice
part of colosseum (for inspiration >> http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~abegel/pictures/italy/mediafiles/l80.jpg )

Doug, I had those same images in mind.

I don't have Collete's book so I think I'll have to design the postcard with the images found on the web.

Thanks for all the help.

ok here it is I was going to suggest some places to look for inspiration to print up on your printer but another idea came along just in time WHEW lol

You have your cake- rectangle or even carve out- shape of Italy- double bonus, make the cake 3 layers- green white and red (flag)- not sure what flavour you'd make green but I guess white would be vanilla or maybe coconut and red would be well, strawberry or raspberry lol,

Ok now you make a list of a few landmarks that are definitely Italian- Pisa, Venice gondola/waterways. Sistine Chapel, Roman ruins maybe, maybe an olive tree LOL, probably not make it too busy. Ok so make some landmarks with chocolate transfer, and stick them upright into the cake like with wire or straws or right into the cake, however you attach CTs to cake LOL. THey would be sticking up like gravestones. Ok so you've made some and you place them strategically all over the country shaped cake- where they belong (thus probably not making too many or it'll be too crowded)
Also cant make too many because now you are needing a place for your postcard icon_biggrin.gif only the postcard is not going to be the picture side, it will be the other side, simple stamp and some fictitious address/name (or the name of the customer even), and on the other half Scrawled like handwriting 'wish you were here' and sign your name icon_biggrin.gif

If you need me to sketch that out to visualize, i'll do it . I just got home and I need to put stuff away first (talk about addicted LOL first place I go is CC when I get in the house LOL)

green --> pistachio?

red >> is there such a thing as tomato cake?

white >> can you add cheese??? or could it just be cheese cake layer????

Hello AgentCakeBaker

Let me show you something that I did recently ...
I was going to post it in my photos, but I will show it to you first.
I especially like the way the marbling came out for the Mediterranean Sea.
If you like, PM me & I will tell you how the cake is done.

ciao
LL
