Oh and was it much needed. I think I dozed about 5 hours on the beach, underneath the umbrella, of course.
Nothing sweet to eat until the last day--had a beniet (sp?) and a slice of peanut butter pie.
I tell you, there is no place like Orange Beach, AL to recharge the batteries. We have been there the last 5 years, rent a condo and do "NOTHING"!!!!
Oh well, now to start designing a wedding cake for next weekend for delivery to Dallas. It was great while it lasted.

My husband and I lived in Orange Beach, AL for a year and really enjoyed it - we have been back a few times since Ivan went through there and were happy to see it has recovered pretty quickly. Still wish Stars was open - it was our favorite place to have a nice dinner and of course you can't beat Doc's for a yummy fish sandwich.........
Yes, the recovery is steady but slow. We went last year and the devastation took our breath away. Even going on I-10 just north of Biloxi and Gulfport, you can still the damage from Katrina.
We tried Bubba's this year and the grilled shrimp is awesome. We did hit our fave's like Live Bait (they were having a poker tourney). Just missed the Thunder--left Friday but they were starting to gear up. Next year, we were thinking of going to Alaska but Alabama has got to be my favorite place to go for relaxation.
We were there 6 weeks after Ivan went through and it broke my heart - my husband and I just couldn't believe how blocks of homes were just gone and all that was left were the 'stilts' where the homes used to stand. When we went back last year they had just opened up I-10 over Pensacola Bay were surprised how much Orange Beach and Gulf Shores had been cleaned up.
