Can I use regular BC especially one with butter rather than shortening to do the viva method I have never tried this or do I have to use the crusting BC?

I haven't tried a BC that is non-crusting, however I am almost certain that with the VIVA method you have to use a crusting BC. I think the icing would stick to the paper towel if you didn't.

To use the visa method you will need a crusting bc. I make my buttercream 50/50 butter and crisco and it smooths really well with viva. Do you use all butter bc?

Wilton so far I use all shortening BC sice I am new to decorating but posted a question about all butter BC but I think in this weather it might melt.

I've used the 50/50 crusting BC, then used computer paper to smooth. It worked well. I didn't love the 50/50 icing though. I'll use all shortening next time. I'm sure Viva would work just as well.
