Hey everybody,

First time poster here with a major issue. I like to dabble in cake decorating but I am by no means a professional. I undertook the making of a cake for my sister's Bridal Shower on Sunday. The theme is royalty so the cake is supposed to be a crown on a pillow.

MY PROBLEM: I tried to color my fondant red but it just won't turn any darker than a really unappealing pink. I only have access to the Wilton Gel Colors and I've tried mixing "No Taste" Red w/ Burgandy...PINK!

I'm really frustrated and hoping somebody can help me ASAP! Thanks in advance!

You just have to keep adding color until you achieve the shade that you want. For red and black, americolors really are the best. If you have time, order some from this site!

Wow! I was just dealing with this same issue last night..... I FINALLY got red......after adding SO much I couldn't believe it!! It almost gets too moist and you have to add powder to it.
Once I achieved red (after about 1 Tablespoon of no taste red...) I laid it on board and dusted it with my dust puff (mixture of = parts cornstarch and powder sugar) Then I worked with it a little bit until it was the right texture again. I was a little worried that it would turn that horrid pink again, but to my relief, it didn't.

HTH. Good luck! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks for the help so far...I certainly don't have time to order the Americolor for this project, but for reference, which red...Americolor makes a few different ones from what I can see on this site. Also, would anybody know if there is somewhere in New York (Long Island) that carries the Americolor stuff...both Michael's & AC Moore (The local chain craft stores) only carry Wilton. Thanks again! I'll keep trying!

Hey Guys,

Just wondering, is there anything I can do to use the Wilton Gel Color to paint the fondant after I put it onto the cake? I don't know, maybe mixing it with water or extract? Please Help!

So I ended up tinting the fondant pink and then using the Wilton Spray on Color to get the red I wanted. Thanks again for the tips and I'm posting the pictures in a gallery if I can figure it out!

For next time and if this is an option, an easier way is to buy Satin Ice pre-colored Red icon_smile.gif
