I realize if there was a stupid question subject this would be at the top of the list but, here goes. Is there an easier way to sift cake ingredients then with a hand sifter. It took me 20 minutes for one cake. icon_redface.gif

I have a huge strainer that I use over a really big bowl. It's technically a spaghetti strainer, but it is really fine and works great for sifting.

Ditto on the spaghetti strainer - mine's a metal strainer, the smallest one of a set of three strainers. However it's still way bigger than those nightmarish hand-crank "canister" sifters. I just put all the ingredients in and rub it around w/a spoon to get it all to go thru. Just make sure the sifter is smaller than the bowl - obviously with a strainer, the stuff comes out the sides too (hey that's what makes sifting so fast!) Good luck!

Big wire strainer for the win!!!!! Over a big bowl....and then pour it into a spouted container and into the mixer.

I have an old (30+ years) 4 cup rotary flour sifter that I love...it's easier on my wrists than the squeeze sifters or using a strainer.

Found a large 8 cup one:

Assorted Sifters:

HTH

P.S. A quality rotary sifter should last a lifetime.

Just stirr the dry ingredients with a wire whisk. It is sooo much easier and quicker.

I have a 2-cup hand sifter that you simply wiggle back and forth over the bowl to sift. Works like a charm, and very quick. Much better than that squeeze sifter I used to have... ask my sweetie about making Moravian cookies our first Christmas together... he still glares at me for that one! LOL
