I am in Anchorage Alaska and we don't have access to sweetex. someone here contacted me and we are thinking of ordering some from "outside" (anywhere outside alaska! LOL). so here's what i need to know; does sweetex really make that much difference? so much better than crisco it's worth having it shipped thousands of miles? if so i'll do it, but if not i'd like to know before we invest. thanks in advance for your opinions! say sweetex is great but I found one that I like a lot and does not cost as much sweetex. Some like alpine better. Other say you can not tell the differance. Anything is WAY better then Cricso
You can also check with a local restruant maybe they can order some for you. Some companies call it "cake icing"
Alpine has a higher melting point than Crisco, although that's probably not an issue for you! Be sure to add butter extract. Also, you only need about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of Alpine or Sweetex for every cup of Crisco that you would normally use. It's creamier and lighter, and does not have that heavy greasy flavor/texture.
