Anyone else a little disappointed in the content of the class? I was expecting so much more. ![]()
Please share your thoughts about the class. i am thinking about signing up for it. I can cover a cake in fondant but have never tried flowers and thought this might be good for me. Do they require that you take the regular classes first? I asked at AC Moore and the girls didnot know. Is the class going to be a waste of my time? I have so little time to spare.
Thank you
Val
I'm considering taking this class in July. Tell me more about it.
I was extremely disappointed in the class. There were less than 10 flowers, closer to 5, I think. Took it the first month it was out. The only enjoyable part was that it was my only break from a toddler and preschooler all week. And I found it very expensive to get all the supplies for the class. I had taken the other 3 and had a ton of stuff, but nothing the class required. Personally, I'd try to find the course book and go it alone.
I agree, you could probably do it with out the class. Just the book. I had fun, and I always learn something, but I thought it would be all the gumpaste flowers, all it was was the daisy, carnation(which was the best thing I got out of class!) and a fantasy flower, not even a real flower. If you have taken the other classes or are an avid cake decorator you will probably be bored alot. I sat and did my own thing alot of the time bc it was fondant review. I think if you have no fondant experience you would probably enjoy it bc you are only required course one to take the class.
yep this class sucks b/c i took all 3 class already then decided to take this. I think if I haden't taken the other classes prior then it would be better. But even the cakes in the book aren't all that , at least to me they're not. I enjoy bc decorations better. I think te fondant decorations make the cake look cheap, ex.like the ribbons and stuff. the only thing i've really learned worhtwhile is making gum glue, but heck i could always just use water. you learn how to make the drape but i think its overratted. I truely could've gone w/o . SO to spice up the class for myself I have thought of an idea to make my final cake worhtwhile. I'm going to cover it in black fondant
lol . partially b/c i have a lady that says she wants a zebra fondant cake. ![]()
I have already signed up for the Wilton Fondant/gumpaste course in july. It looks like i will be missing the first class due to having to go to a hospital 4 hours away for medical tests. I am hoping it will be worth my while after that. I have only taken Course 1 so far. In July I will be taking Fondant/Gumpaste on Monday nights and Course 2 on Tuesday nights. Gonna be really busy in july for sure.

If you can find it ty t gumpast flowers course that Wilton offers. Michaels offers it near me but they don't advertise it. The gumpaste flowers course would be a lot better i think. I have not takken the fondant and gumpaste class but from what I have read on here it is a waste of time and money, especially if you have taken the ther 3 courses like I have.
Well and supposedly they are coming out with a second one. So you can spend more on a second class. But if you ask me they could have added alot more to this one. I had no work at home compared to the other classes. And dont feel there was nearly as much material covered.
I gather not too many places are offering the gumpaste class b.c my instuctor who does the high up training said that is all the 'old stuff' though I did learn a lot from that book, I just thought it would help to have the class, but I think I got more out of the old book.

I completely agree with you! I even emailed Wilton and told them it was a big dissapointment.
