I wanted to try and make a color flow plaque but my color flow mix is old (I think....it smells funny and is at least a couple of years old....the Wilton site says it's good for about a year). Wilton site also says you can use Color Flow mix in place of meringue powder to make royal icing.....so, I'm wondering if I can use meringue powder instead of color flow mix to make a plaque. Anyone tried this?

Also, if I do end up getting more color flow mix, how long is the icing good for? I couldn't find it on the Wilton chart!

TIA,
april

You can use meringue powder instead of egg whites to make royal icing and then make a plaque out of it. if you wish.
About how long will Color Flow last depends on many factors.Let another guy tell of their experience.

omicake....have you made a royal icing plaque? Is there any difference between that and color flow in your experience?

You can just use royal icing instead of color flow. The only difference is that your pieces will not have a "pillowed" effect. They will dry flat.

I took the wilton class and did the color flow (with wilton's color flow mix), since then I've been making them with just regular royal icing. Follow wilton's royal icing recipe and thin it with water just like the color flow.
You'll get the same results.
