I am making the firemans helmet that is in the how-to articles here on CC (however I am having to do it all in buttercream).

I am guessing that it will feed about 15 people. What do you guys think?

Also, any tips on how to do the ridges on top without using fondant. I figured I would pipe lines and then wait for them to crust and try to shape them kind of that way. I'm not too happy with the whole thing so far...

I already did the No Fail Sugar Cookie recipe and made the brim out of a big cookie. Thought the kids would love that.

Here are a whole bunch that are in the galleries...http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=thumbnails&meta=search&type=full&search=fire+helmet

That is the cake that brought me to CC in the first place! I have now done it many times as I am on the Fire Aux. When I did it in bc, I sculpted the forms in the top. Give that a try and have fun with it!

My thoughts on the ridges - use a #12 and then kinda smooth it with your cornstarched finger. The cookie is a good idea!

justducky and cowdex THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR RESPONDING!!!

I actually was just thinking how I wish I would have cut the cake so the the groves were just there...but I have already iced it and can't go back. In fact I didn't like the shape I had the top in, so I just re-shaved it a little more. I think I might have to go with the #12 and corn starch finger. I'm a little stumped...but hopefully I will figure it out and it will come together.

The cake is one 3"deep 8" and a 2"deep 8" stacked and trimmed around the top. How many people do you think that will feed? 15?
